JANUARY 3, 2006
AY JALISCO RESTAURANT
The first Board of Directors meeting of the year 2006 of the Indian River Corvette Club was Called to Order by incoming President Dick Kesler at approximately 6:53 PM at Ay Jalisco. In attendance:
Dick and Lucy Kesler
Tom and Hollyann Quina
Steve and Bonnie Pfeister
Rob and Cathie Callery
Vilas Smith and Betty Brousseau
Ro Bryant
Ron and Mary Ann Derby
The following agenda items were discussed:
By vote of the officers, Board Members for 2006 were appointed.
Webmaster – Tom Quina
Newsletter Editor – Hollyann Quina
Historian – Lucy Kesler
Membership/Sunshine Committee – Ro Bryant
Motion was made and carried to accept the minutes of the October 11, 2005 meeting of the Board of Directors.
Ro Bryant reported that we are starting the new year with a balance of XXXX in the Club checking account.
Ro Bryant also reported that the Club currently has 68 paid members – drivers and navigators. We have four new members referred from the web site and two new members from Service Chevrolet. To date, ten regular members have not paid dues for 2006.
January’s Mystery Dinner Ride on January 31, 2006 will be hosted by Ron and Mary Ann Derby.
Old Business included the following:
Since the regularly scheduled Board Meeting for July falls on the 4th, it was agreed that the Board of Directors would meet on July 11, 2006 at the regular time and place.
Dick opened the floor to discussion of the club’s sponsor. After a lengthy discussion, it was agreed by all that the club sponsor support the club with a yearly donation. Ro reminded those present that Dan informed the sponsor last year that only the first year’s membership would be a “freebie”.
Bonnie agreed to be the club welcome committee and work with Greg at Service Chevrolet by being present when the keys are handed to a new owner of a Corvette. She will present the owners with an Introduction/New Member package that includes a free one year membership to Indian River Corvette Club donated by Service Chevrolet.
Discussion of a liaison to work with the sponsor led into a discussion of a member’s package. Ro and Heather had already created a introduction pamphlet for new members containing club information, recent photos of club events, etc. It was agreed that Bonnie and Ro would put together a small “welcome to the world of Corvettes” package.
Bonnie and Cathie led the discussion regarding the Club Charity for 2006. The club will continue to support the Women’s Refuge Center of Vero Beach. Donations of personal items such as bath and body products, toiletries and cash would be collected at the general membership meetings in April, May and June. In June, the Club will host a cocktail party and present these donations to the Director of the Center.
New Business included the following:
After a discussion of a suggested Valentines Day event, it was agreed that the general membership meeting would still be held on February 10th at the Carriage House and the MDR for February would be hosted by Steve and Bonnie Pfiester as scheduled. Bonnie mentioned that it would a lovebird theme.
Regarding the Valentines Day Event, after much discussion, it was agreed that more time is needed to plan such an event. More information is needed regarding the minimum number of attendees, the price per person if less than 50 people attend and the type of entertainment offered. Dick will get more information and pass along to Bonnie for consideration as a club event in the future.
A request from some club members to make changes to the Mystery Dinner Ride was brought up for discussion. It was agreed NOT to change how the Mystery Dinner Ride is coordinated.
It was suggested that it would be helpful to include the cell number of the host on the front of the sealed envelope.
An email from Deborah Batteiger of YourHub.com was presented for discussion. There is some concern that by making our club information available to non-Corvette owners, it could present problems for the Club. One of the biggest concerns is that non-Corvette owners would have access to Club Event information and could use this information to vandalism our Corvettes. It was agreed that we not pursue the use of this website at this time. This decision does not prevent individual members form accessing the site for personal use.
A suggestion for a Cloud X Cruise as a club event was presented to for discussion. It was agreed that the Bonnie would present this suggestion to the general membership for discussion.
Ro informed us that the Club sent flowers and a card to John McKee, a former member of the club who was in a very serious car accident recently.
The following upcoming events were mentioned:
Members who want to Caravan to Riverside Park for the event should meet at Al Jaisco at 11:30 AM. The cost is $12.50 per person (tax and gratuity included). Please bring CASH. Any member interested in attending this event should contact Lucy Kesler.
More details will be available as Christmas approaches.
With no further business at hand, the meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.

Questions regarding the election of officers, the by-laws and the voting process were raised by Leslie. Members feel that each member (driver and navigator) should have a vote – not one vote per membership. Some members also questioned as to whether the election was conducted per the by-laws. After a brief discussion, Dan motioned that a committee be appointed to draft necessary changes to the by-laws. Sue seconded that motion. Motion carried. A committee will be formed at the July Board meeting to discuss changes to the by-laws.
50/50 - $90.00 jackpot was split with Frank and Connie Baudo. Congratulations Frank and Connie and thanks to all for participating. In place of a dessert run, Lucy and Dick Kesler arranged for the club to have a dance at the Carriage House immediately following the meeting. Music will be provided by Play It Again. Many thanks to Ro Bryant, Lucy Kesler and Linda Fallon for providing desserts for this evening.
A reminder that we are not paying for the use of the room so please remember to take care of your bill and generously tip the waiter and waitress.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.

Dick expressed our gratitude to Gregg Williams of Service Chevrolet for the use of the room and for supplying cold soda and water for refreshments.
The following agenda items were discussed:
Dick welcomed and congratulated the new officers – Vice President Frank Baudo and Officer-at-large Bill Ulisky.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Fourth of July Parade in Sebastian. A special thanks to Bill Ulisky for coordinating the parade and arranging for breakfast following at Marsh Landing in Fellsmere. Everyone who attended had a good time.
Dick spoke with Betty Skelton Erde regarding the insertion of “and Home Club of Betty Skelton” to the club motto. She has no problem with this change.
Tom Quina requested floor time to express his concerns regarding recent happenings at club meetings and events and also the ambiguity of the club by-laws. After some discussion, it was agreed that the by-laws are hard to interpret and need to be revised. Also, the club rosters and lists need to be updated to correspond with the clarification of the by-laws. Following the discussion, a By-laws committee chairperson was appointed – Ro Bryant. Three board members have volunteered to help her – Denver Sperry, Tom Quina and Sue Smith. More volunteers are needed and will be brought to the general membership at the July 14th meeting.
To date, there are no scheduled club events for the months of August and September with the exception of the Mystery Dinner Runs. Sue and Bonnie will meet and come up with an event for these months. Dinner at the Italian-American Club on Sunday night August 6th or 20th was mentioned as a possible club event.
Reminder that Frank and Connie Baudo are hosting the Mystery Dinner Run on July 25th and Terry and Sue Smith are the hosts for the August 29th MDR.
Dick announced that he and Lucy would not be in town for the September 5th Board Meeting. Frank Baudo will chair this meeting.
The club secretary will be on vacation through November. Lucy Kesler, Connie Baudo and Ro Bryant have volunteered to record the minutes during her absence. A very big thank-you to Lucy, Connie and Ro.
Dick spoke briefly about the possibility of doing a car show in conjunction with a local Corvette owner. Taking on a show is a large responsibility and something that the board feels is too large an undertaking at this time. Sue and Bonnie will contact Mr. Deubel and speak with him regarding the possibility of doing something small such as a club event or monthly meeting at his establishment
With no further agenda items to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM. Dinner at Chili’s for anyone interested.
Respectfully recorded by,
